The idea of your enemy being your footstool is an old war picture. Whenever an enemy was conquered he would become the slave of the conqueror and would bow down and allow the conqueror to place his feet on his back as a sign of submission. God is saying that He will give you the victory over your enemies.   In fact, God is so much greater than other gods that it is impossible to even see God sitting on a throne. God is so much higher than anything else in the universe that all we can catch a glimpse of is God’s footstool! Holy is the Lord our God! Yet the magnificent God, who has no human limitations, chose to do something even more magnificent.

God had never asked Israel for a King, and God had never asked David to build him a Temple. In this text, David admits that a Temple could never contain God. He refers to the Temple as a "footstool." God is not a "Jack in the Box" God. On God's Footstool by Bruce Greene ~ The concept for "On God's Footstool" began several years ago when Janie and I were visiting the JA Ranch. The foreman took us to the top of Mitchel Peak which is the highest point in the Palo Duro Canyon. As the sun was setting, we watched a summer shower come across the huge expanse.
